New Castle needs you!  Volunteers are needed for the 2016-2017 school year.  Serving as a New Castle Volunteer is a great way to get involved in your child’s education and to meet other New Castle families!  Please consider becoming involved in one or more of these worthy committees.  If you have questions about the Volunteers in Education program or would like more information on any of the committees, please contact the VIE Coordinator at Volunteers@dragonpta.com. 

Standing CommitteesProviding support to the students, staff, and school in a variety of ways.

  • Grounds Beautification: Maintaining school flower beds and courtyard by weeding and maintaining neat appearance.  (Once per month or as needed, year round)
  • Reflections: Helping to support the National PTA program designed to enhance a quality arts education by providing an opportunity for students to explore their artistic talents and receive positive recognition for their efforts. (Thru January)
  • Hospitality: Helping with monthly staff birthday celebrations and events throughout the year. (Year round)
  • Baking: Providing baked goods and other food items for a variety of PTA-sponsored events. (Year round)
  • Box Tops: Helping to collect, count, and submit Box Tops, as well as hold collection contests. (Year round)
  • Chess Club: Help with running the chess club. (Either part year or year round)

 Events CommitteesFlexible volunteer opportunities include: pre-event planning, set-up, helping during the event, and/or clean-up.

  • Fall Fun Night (November 4) - Games, crafts, and treats to celebrate the season.
  • Holiday Bingo (TBD) - Bingo and prize drawings with dinner and snacks.
  • Dragon Vendor & Craft Expo/Santa Breakfast - Vendors & Crafters coordination, Santa, and food distribution.
  • Father/Daughter Dance (TBD) – Night of dancing for dads and their girls.
  • Science Fair (TBD) – Science project competition.
  • Mother/Son Event (TBD) – Night of fun for moms and their boys. 
  • Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week (TBD) – Week to show our teachers/staff how much we appreciate them.
  • 5th Grade Graduation (June 16) – Morning of graduation for our 5th graders. 

Product Redemption:  Submission of labels and receipts to participating brands for money, products and incentives. 

Box Tops, Campbell’s labels, Ink cartridges, Food Lion MVP, Harris Teeter, Sunny D labels, Target, and Tyson Project A+.

School CommitteesSupplying volunteer support for the following school-sponsored activities.

  • Book Fair (October 31 - November 4)Assisting the library with the sales and customer service during the Book Fair.
  • Book Swap: Assisting the library and our students in a Book Swap.
  • Grandparents’ Day (November 23): Assisting the guidance department on Grandparent’s Day.
  • Library: Straightening and shelving books, and assisting students in finding materials.  (Year round, regular volunteers needed).

Nothing the PTA does can happen without you, our volunteers.  Thank you for considering giving your time to the committees, product redemption programs and events listed above.  Please note that these items are subject to change due to cancellation, replacement or discontinuation of any committee/program/event.
